William Xerra moves his I LIE into the web. After his Manifesto composeded by Xerra and read by Pierre Restany at the Mudina Foundation on 20 June 2002, the artist has urged some experts to reflect and interpret the sense of I LIE. A warning, a confession, a sentence, a paradox or a protective mechanism? Is I LIE above all imagination? Moreover the verb “lie” etymologically derives from “imagine” specifically a network, a series of crossed lines which explicate the linguistic mechanism of the artist. A translation, which renews continuously the production of images, is the turning point of Xerra’s work. He transfers his reflections from a place (the atelier) to another (the web which is not quite a place, but an immaterial space) where points become idioms, writings, languages. Xerra invites artists and experts from all over the world to translate and interpret the phrase IO MENTO... I LIE: wholly or partially, the text of this Manifesto will become a worldwide work in progress. |
